Fire O&C Investigation: The Use of Arc Mapping

ProNet Group was retained by an electrical utility service provider to perform an origin and cause investigation involving a fire that occurred in a pallet yard.

Initial reports stated that the fire was caused by sparks coming from a faulty transformer located on a utility pole on the perimeter of the pallet yard. As previously stated, the fire occurred inside of a pallet yard. The extensive fuel load caused extensive damage to the property, and fire department tactics and strategy left little remains. Thus, examination of burn patterns did not provide conclusive evidence leading to the area of origin.

Through the use of arc mapping and witness interviews, it was determined that the fire started inside of the pallet yard, and not at the transformer, which was previously reported by the fire department investigators.
